No wonder I don't like this time of year. It seems there are a lot of losses that occur amongst the, sometimes artificial, yuletide cheer. My Uncle Irv passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 17, a week before his 93rd birthday. He had a wonderful life and will be sorely missed by all of us, and especially by Vera, his wife of 66 years. Before they even had a term for it, Irv was my life coach. He was my friend, informal book club partner, chess tutor and tennis teacher. He was smart, learned, funny, loving, playful and generous. He was the mastermind behind the "Flushing Toilet Bowl" - touch football games our family used to play around Thanksgiving, outside of my parents apartment building (hint: our family lived near Flushing, Queens!) Forward laterals and trick plays were allowed and encouraged.
