Botshabelo Community Development Trust, about 2 1/2 hours outside of Johannesburg represents a haven for a population of mostly women and children who have been subjected to violence, disease and sub-standard living conditions.
Despite horrendous life stories Botshabelo is a cause for hope and inspiration for the children and families that live there. There are given health care, food, lodging, counselling and emotional support and encouraged to participate in activities like karate and art. The founders come from highly educated and privileged backgrounds to live essentially in a dormitory with their over 100 residents in a spirit of "Ubuntu", or caring for the community.
